How to Design OSD for MSMA 2 Seminar at IEM PJ on 3 Dec, 2014 (Wed)

As you are aware, the second edition of MSMA (MSMA2) was enforced
on 1 July, 2012.

Based on our case studies for Kuala Lumpur, we found significant
changes in major design parameters using MSMA2 as follows:

(1) Design storm increased by up to 126%,

(2) Design discharge using Rational Method increased by 131%,

(3) OSD storage volume increased by up to 235% and

(4) Storage volume for wet sediment basin increased by 165%.

The seminar covers the problems of applying MSMA2 in the design of
OSD. Case studies have shown that the storage (SSR) computed using
MSMA2 is about 2.3 times higher than MSMA1 for Kuala Lumpur due to
the approximation method used.

In this Seminar, we discuss alternative approach to the design of
OSD using the Exact Swinburne's Method which results in SSR
of less than half the MSMA2 estimate.

We will show you how to do this using spreadsheet and
software.

We have developed a new and innovative software (MSMAware) for
MSMA2 that allows you to do the following effortlessly:

1. The software allows you to design for OSD using any one of the
following approaches: MSMA1, MSMA2 and the ESM (Exact Swinburne's
Method) Method.

2. Firstly, to compute the design storm for use in OSD computation,
you can click to select any one of the 135 stations in West
Malaysia on a map, and the software will compute the design storm
for you.

3. Secondly, to compute the peak discharge data using the Rational
Method for use in OSD computation, all you need to do is to select
the nearest stations on a map, enter the catchment area and select
the runoff coefficient and the software will compute the design
discharge for you.

4. Thirdly, for On-Site Detention (OSD) design, the software will
apply the three methods of computing the Site Storage Requirements
(SSR) i.e., the Swinburne method in MSMA1, the approximate
Swinburne method in MSMA2 and the Exact Swinburne Method (ESM) in
the first edition.

How to Design OSD using MSMA2 (Sept 26, 2014 @ IEM PJ)

Announcing next "MSMA2- What Changes?" Seminar on 30-6-2012

Dear Fellow Engineers,
