A step toward flood relief - About: DrainageNews

A North Jersey engineering firm was awarded a $119,440 contract by the Bergen County freeholders this week to begin drafting plans for a project that would ease flooding on the border of Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook. The contract with Birdsall Engineering comes a year after Fair Lawn installed a 24-inch storm-water pipe near Arcadia Road on the assumption that the county would connect the pipe to its drainage system in Fleisher Brook in Elmwood Park. But while Birdsall prepares to submit construction plans, the county cannot break ground on the project until Saddle Brook secures a permit from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to dredge a canal leading to Fleisher Brook, Mabel Aragon, a county spokeswoman said Thursday. Once the dredging is completed, Birdsall will connect the drainage pipe in Fair Lawn and eventually reengineer the drainage system on Midland Avenue in Saddle Brook, leading up to the NJ Transit rail lines. read me
