Centre to give Mumbai drainage system a make over - CNN-IBN- Topic: DrainageNews

As the chaos in Mumbai has come to a little rest, the Centre is now giving the city Rs 12, 000 crore to rehaul the city's drainage system. The Centre has asked the state government not to expect more funds for the project. The project is called 'Brimstowad' and it will involve building nallahs and culverts, widening and deepening the city's rivers, and setting up more pumping stations. However, town planners say that the ambitious project is short-sighted and will provide only partial relief. Even as the funds begin to pour into the city, the administration continues to face a problem even more chronic and deep-rooted than its unsatisfactory drainage which is the cynicism of the public.
