Drainage System Upgrade On Track - Lakeland Ledger- Topic: DrainageNews

FROSTPROOF - Improvements to the drainage system between lakes Clinch and Reedy should be completed by the end of the year, reducing the possibility of a repeat of the floods of 2005. The pipe is being buried on the part of the drainage system between Lake Clinch and the railroad tracks. In 2005 the system was unable to handle excessive rains and an inflow from Crooked Lake, resulting in the flooding of numerous homes, yards and streets around Lake Clinch. The county agreed to pay the Polk County School District $245,000 to cover the cost of the classroom and covered walkways that will be removed during the project. The state has allocated $1 million for the project, with the county and the Southwest Florida Water Management District agreeing to split the remaining $2. Resident Doug Wise, who was among those pushing for the project, said it appears that the project will help resolve the flooding, if the 2005 situation repeats itself. read me
