DrainageNews - Stadium Drive to close for roadwork - Diamondback Online

A portion of Stadium Drive will be closed for the rest of the semester as the university upgrades the storm water drainage system running underneath the Northeast portion of campus. Starting early next week, a one-block portion of the road from Paint Branch Drive to the service road between the Jeong H. Carlo Colella, director of engineering, architecture and construction, said the planned expansion will be "fairly disruptive" compared to other construction projects on the campus but said it was also "fairly easy to detour around" because of the grid-like setup of the streets near the engineering buildings. Parts of Paint Branch Drive were closed over the summer while crews worked on adding a segment of the drainage system near Paint Branch Creek, where storm water from the campus drains. The current system is too small for extreme levels of rain, and the excess water has the potential to flood low-lying buildings near the creek, threatening nearby labs in the engineering section of the campus. read me
