Petition filed against water-logging - The Statesman(DrainageNews)

The West Bengal Government, the petition states, had prepared a plan to solve the problem in consultation with experts from WHO, the USA and the UK in 1967. A government report prepared later stated that some works, particularly relating to outfall channels and drainage pumping stations and construction of some relief storm drains and additional sewers, had been executed but most of the works still remained to be done. Water bodies in the city which could have carried a portion of storm water have been recklessly filled up. The canals and channels carrying storm water of the city have been totally silted reducing their water carrying capacity. read me
