Two people die in floods - Times of India(DrainageNews)

Till the skies opened up in the evening, residents of the south thanked the civic authorities for doing a good job while those in the north accused Kolkata Municipal Corporation of neglect. That the allegation had some basis was proved when Chittaranjan Avenue, Shyambazar, College Street, Vivekananda Road in north Kolkata went under water on Monday following incessant downpour since Saturday. But after waterlogging in south Kolkata in the evening, it was proved that the civic body had a lot to answer for the failure of the entire city√Ęs drainage system. Till then, the people of Park Circus, Syed Amir Ali Avenue, Gariahat Road, Hindustan Road, Rashbehari Avenue and Southern Avenue had been spared of waterlogging. The drainage department had undertaken a special desilting drive on Syed Amir Ali Avenue after Kolkata Police urged KMC to take care of a stretch of the road that falls on the chief minister√Ęs route. read me
